Self-propelled multifunctional diagnostic train
On basis of locomotive 2TE116
SMDL-2TE116 is a self-propelled multifunctional diagnostic train for automated monitoring of railway infrastructure condition at operating speeds of up to 100 km/h under conditions of real track and locomotive interaction with an axle load of 23.7 tons.
Self-propelled multifunctional diagnostic train (SMDL)
On basis of locomotive 2TE116
SMDL-2TE116 is a self-propelled multifunctional diagnostic train for automated monitoring of railway infrastructure condition at operating speeds of up to 100 km/h under conditions of real track and locomotive interaction with an axle load of 23.7 tons.
The project development of SMDL-2TE116 was initialized by JSC Russian Railways. INFOTRANS, a long–term developer and supplier of diagnostic systems and tools for Russian Railways, was chosen the lead company for this project. The main co-executors of the project were the Locomotive Engineering Bureau and the Voronezh Diesel Locomotive Repair Plant.
  • infrastructure monitoring under conditions of real track and locomotive interaction with an axial load of 23.7 tons;
  • a high degree of automation of all measurement, monitoring, evaluation and analysis procedures with a minimum crew involvement;
  • the autonomy of the diagnostic section, all necessary household equipment and life-support systems, comfortable living and working conditions.
A full-fledged laboratory for the diagnosis of railway infrastructure has been designed in the section of the 2TE116 diesel locomotive which is characterized by:
The SMDL is a universal diagnostic complex and is capable of carrying out, among other things, diagnostics of the overhead line on track electrified sections.

As part of a single check it provides monitoring with regards to the track and geodetic (GLONASS/GPS) coordinate systems. It implies:
  • more than 120 parameters of technical infrastructure facilities monitoring;
  • over 140 parameters of automatic result evaluation and analytical processing functions.
It replaces a number of specialized diagnostic tools and surpasses them in functionality.
A georadiolocation system of ballast section and trackbed (three-frequency, six-antenna).
A multifunctional system of track geometry and cross profile monitoring.
Monitoring systems
Rail residual magnetization monitoring system.
A multifunctional system for communications monitoring.
A multifunctional high speed system of permanent way video monitoring.
A complex spatial scanning system.
A multifunctional system of catenary inspection.
A multifunctional system for automation and telemechanics devices monitoring.
A complex system of positioning in track and geodetic (GLONASS/GPS) coordinate systems.
